Program 1: Over the Talas Range Towards Lake Sary-Chelek

Destinations: The town of Talas, Madaniyat Village, Sary-Chelek Reserve, Kara-Suu Village

Level of Difficulty: Difficult (two passes over 3600m - crossing on foot)
Requirements: Trekking boots, weatherproof warm clothes, hat, tent, sunscreen, sleeping bag, some horse riding skills

Itinerary: Bishkek - Talas - Madaniyat Village - Urmaral Gorge - Chiyim-Tash Pass - Kara-Kuldzha Pass - Kashka-Suu Pass - Lake Kara-Kamysh - Sary-Chelek National Reserve - Kara-Suu Village - Tash-Komur - Bishkek
Day 1: Leave Bishkek. Arrive in Talas. Meet Talas CBT Coordinator. Transfer to Madaniyat Village. Meet guide and support team. Tour and horseback riding introduction. Supper.

Day 2: Breakfast. Tour starts alongside a stream towards the Urmaral Gorge. Short picnic lunch. Supper and overnight camp near two rivers junction. Horse riding - 6/7 hours.

Day 3: Breakfast. Tour crosses Talas Range over the Chiyim-Tash Pass (3600m). Cross steep and stony pass on foot. Pass by shepherd's yurts and animals. Short picnic Munch. Supper and overnight in a camp in the mountains. Horse riding - 6/7 hours.

Day 4: Breakfast. Ride alongside mountain river towards the Kara-Kuldzha Pass (3161m). View griffins and marmots. Short picnic lunch during the day. Horse riding - 6/7 hours.

Day 5: Breakfast. This day is quite tough. Ascent to Kashka-Suu Pass challenging but rewarding. Short picnic lunch during the day. Supper and overnight in a camp, on the shore of Lake Kara-Kamysh. Horse riding - 6/7 hours.

Day 6: Breakfast. Cross Kotormo Pass (2446m) into Sary-Chelek National Reserve. Observe stunning panoramas, trees and wild animals. Short picnic lunch. Horse riding - 6/ 7 hours.

Day 7: Breakfast. Ride through Sary-Chelek orchards and forests. Arrive at Kara-Suu Village. Acquaintance with local lifestyle and habits, and visiting handicrafts shops. Short picnic lunch during the day. Shower, supper and overnight in a local homestay. Horse riding - 6/7 hours.

Day 8: Breakfast. Leave Kara-Suu for Bishkek via Tash-Komur.

    Program 2: It is Better Once to See, Than to Listen Many Times

    Category: Combined, horseback / trekking
    Duration: 5 days
    Option: 3 days, 4 days
    Level of Difficulty: Moderate
    Overall Distance: 55km
    Best Season: May 15 - September 30
    Requirements: Trekking boots, weatherproof warm clothes, hat, sunscreen, tent, sleeping bag, some horse riding skills

    Itinerary: Kyzyl-Kol Village - Kara-Suu Lake - Kotormo Pass - Sary-Chelek Lake and Reserve - back to Kyzyl-Kol
    Day 1: Welcome to your guesthouse. Supper.

    Day 2: Breakfast, followed by a briefing and choosing horses; then setting off northwards to Kara-Suu Gorge, crossing the river by wooden bridges. The gorge becomes rather narrow and the slopes are covered with a beautiful silver fir forest. Further on the track passes below a waterfall and then climbs over a pass to Kara-Suu Lake (1800m, 17km, 4 hours). Have lunch and then relax and experience the real way of life on the jailoo (mountain pasture). Enjoy supper by an open fire.

    Day 3: Breakfast, then continue the trek to Kotormo Pass - 2446m. On the descent from we Pass, stop for a picnic lunch in a field. (7km, 3 hours). After lunch continue the trek and see the 5 lakes of Sary-Chelek. Have supper and camp overnight in tents (10km, 3 hours).

    Day 4: Breakfast and relax near Iri-Kol Lake, folloowed by lunch at 12.00. After lunch continue trekking among the nut forests and get a panoramic view of Sary-Chelek. Descend from the Pass to Kyzyl-Kol village for dinner in a guesthouse (20km, 4 hours).

    Day 5: Breakfast. Morning departure.

    Program 3: By the Lakes of Sary-Chelek

    Itinerary: Kyzyl-Kol Village - Kara-Suu Lake - Makmal Pass - Sary-Chelek North Lake - Ashuu Pass - Sary-Chelek Reserve - back to Kyzyl-Kol
    Day 1: Welcome to your guesthouse. Supper.

    Day 2: Breakfast. Briefing, followed by choosing horses. Setting off northwards from Kyzyl-Kol to the Kara-Suu Gorge, along the banks of the Kara-Suu River, crossing by wooden bridges as necessary. The gorge becomes rather narrow and the slopes are covered with a beautiful silver fir forest. Further on the track passes below a waterfall and then climbs over a pass to Kara-Suu Lake (1800m, 17km, 4 hours). Have lunch and then relax and experience the real way of life on the jailoo (mountain pasture). Enjoy supper by an open fire.

    Day 3: Breakfast, then continue the trek along the Kara-Suu River where the slopes of the mountains are covered with silver fir forests. The stony road winds through inhabited jailoos (mountain pastures) where you stop for lunch below the Makmal Pass. After lunch you cross the Makmal Pass (2700m), and descend into the Kojo-Ata River valley and on to Sary-Chelek Lake where you will have dinner and camp overnight in tents.

    Day 4: Breakfast, followed by crossing the Ashuu Pass (2600m) where you are surrounded by fir forests and have a panoramic view of the infinite ridges of the Tien-Shan Mountains stretching to the far horizon and beyond. During the descent from the pass you will have lunch and then continue down through the Ashuu Gorge to the bottom part of Sary-Chelek Lake where you will have dinner and camp overnight in tents (25km, 6 hours).

    Day 5: Breakfast followed by a short excursion 34 to the 5 small lakes of Sary-Chelek (10km, 2,5 hours) till noon. After this you will continue on through the fir forests enjoying the panoramic views on the way to Arkyt and descend to Kyzyl-Kol Village for dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse (20km, 4 hours).

    Day 6: Breakfast. Morning departure.
